I don't know if any of the things I mentioned can be done using a Pi Zero but I was imaging these subsystems could talk to the main Home Assistant on the Pi 3 so it wouldn't need that much processing power. Some of the things that I was thinking about was something that could open and close my window blinds, something that could tell if there is anyone in a room (so like an IR sensor maybe?!) or simply something that will listen for commands (I'm trying to setup Mycroft on it as well). You can go to the Developer Tools -> Services, select the service homeassistant.restart and click Call Service. I have a Pi 3 that is running Home Assistant and I also have 2 Pi Zero Ws that I wanted to use for "subsystems". In your Home Assistant UI go to the Settings -> System and click the Restart button.
